We have been making people look and feel great for over 35 years.

Doing hair is more than just cuts and colors. It's building relationships, being a support for someone who might need, it's community.

As a long time part of the Melbourne and Palm Bay community, we love giving back to our community. We have been involved with many local nonprofits/fundraisers including Early Learning Coalition, Breast Friends, the Brevard Zoo, Pink in Paradise, Love is a Verb and The Salon Professional Academy to name a few.

We love our clients and our community. We look forward to serving you for many years to come!

A Note from the Owner

Hey Y'all, I'm Maryssa. I'm so glad you're here to get a glimpse of my journey!

This company takes up a huge part of my heart and has shaped me into the person I am today. I am the third owner of Talking Heads but my story started years before!

I was first hired on at the salon as a receptionist at just 17 years old! I grew up with incredible parents who raised me to be a go-getter and strive for excellence. So I got my foot in the door before even starting cosmetology school. Once I completed school, I moved up the next rung on the ladder. I became a salon assistant. Working tirelessly along the previous owner I honed my skills and eventually asked her to set me free as a full time hair stylist.

When I was approached about buying the salon, I was only 22 years old. Talk about growing up fast! Running any business can be challenging, I'm sure but working full time doing hair and learning the ins and outs of accounting and handling customers and my employees (all of whom were older than me!) was certainly a juggling act. This first year of ownership was more than any business owner could have bargained for.

Let me tell you what, buying a business during hurricane season is not ideal. In just my first couple weeks as owner, we had to shut our doors for a hurricane. The amount of stress that caused, made a hurricane coming seem like the least

of my worries. Deep breaths, we made it through. What else could go wrong?

This is the famous last words. What could go wrong? Covid. Within the first year of me owning the salon, a worldwide pandemic. Nobody knew what they were doing when this struck. We closed our salon doors for 7 weeks! There was financial burdens, new health protocols, social distancing, masks and political debate. So much more than little 22 year old me expected or knew how to handle. Even some businesses that had highly educated and experienced owners, had to shut their doors permanently. Everyone had different struggles during this time. But my mother and father raised me right. I was not gonna go down without a fight. I faced each obstacle one at a time. With a lot of grit, I fought for this business.

Some of the stuff we don't hear about with Covid is the aftereffects. When you're using the amount of cleaners, sanitizers and disinfectants that were required to keep our salon open, faux leather chairs just aren't going to hold up. All of my clients know, and my hair stylists will tell their stories, that I am not your typical hair stylist. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty ( as seen in this picture!). I reupholstered all of the furniture myself which otherwise would have cost 10s of thousands to replace. I can often be found fixing things around the salon myself, as well as doing remodels and improvements.

In my time owning the salon, I have done some great accomplishments. We were voted "Neighborhood Favorite" on Nextdoor. This year we were also awarded with Reader's Choice "Favorite Salon" in Brevard County's HomeTown News newspaper.

I was also hand selected and invited to join the Brevard Wedding Association. This elusive association requires you to have a sponsor and be voted in.

I am proud to say that we are the BWA's ONLY hair salon in

all of Brevard County.

This journey has been far from an easy one but "the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing."

Seeing customers light up with

can be happy and fulfilled

makes all the hard work

worth doing.
